Phacops megalomanicus, giant trilobite
Devonian, Morocco

Trilobites are a readily recognized group of extinct marine arthropods.  Trilobites had a wide range of lifestyles, such as planktonic, bottom dwelling, and burrowing, and most of them are only 2-3 inches long and often less.  This is a replica of a big brute that was a bottom feeder with large and well developed eyes. The swollen area at the front was an enlargement for the stomach, not the brain.

This fossil cast comes with an informative card.
