Allosaurus fragilis endocast of brain cavity

Late Jurassic western United States

Although much maligned for having small brains, it may be surprising to realize that dinosaur brains are not actually preserved.  We can study the brain structure by examining the rock sediment naturally filling the inside of the brain cavity.  These natural casts of the inside of the brain cavity are known scientifically as endocasts. A fair amount of the brain anatomy can be discovered by the careful study and comparing of endocasts and modern brains.   Here's a chance to own a replica of the only known endocast of the theropod Allosaurus.

This fossil cast comes with informative label.
